Travel In Style
For more than a decade, I have had a part-time profession that has worked quite nicely for me. My job is with the airlines. One of the smartest decisions I have made as a young woman to secure health and travel benefits. It's a wonderful company, and while there I met some incredible people. I can fly literally anywhere in the entire world for very little or nothing and enjoy first-class accommodations like the “Queen” that I am.
I say that with modest humor because I don’t take it for granted!
Unfortunately, due to my busy schedule, I do not have as much time to travel as I should, but it is comforting to know that if I wanted to, I could simply jump on a plane and go somewhere.
For example, if I wanted to spend as little money as possible, I can take a red-eye to the chilly hills of Aspen and curl up in front of the fireplace in cozy flannel pajamas for a day or two. Or I could get on a plane, fly to Paris for the day, and shop for the holidays or attend Fashion Week to get a glimpse of the newest styles. Or maybe spending a weekend in the Maldives sunbathing in the pristine waters encircling each island is another possibility.
With a lot of options packing for these vacations can be both fun and frustrating. After all, who wants to fly with a lot of luggage or worry about having to remove items from a bag during TSA screening that you may have forgotten you had in it? hahaha! That is a scene that we have all witnessed before.
We all want to feel comfortable while traveling, that much is obvious. So, what does conventional flying attire look like? And what should we pack or bring with us on a plane to stay comfortable while also looking stylish? Let's face it: most of us have seen someone dress utterly offensive for a flight. And believe it or not, many passengers have been asked to deboard or denied boarding if the gate or flight attendant finds what they are wearing inappropriate.
Yes y’all there is a dress code for flying on an aircraft.
So what does one wear to be comfy but still stylish when flying and walking through the airport? Here are just a few quick tips that I will share in this blog and will keep you informed on other travel tips over time, but for now take note to these 7 quick travel suggestions:
Wear breathable, loose fitting fabrics especially if your flight is 2 hours or longer and especially if you sweat a lot. Natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, viscose, wool and silk are breathable fabrics to wear.
Always, always, always wear comfortable shoes that you can slip in and out of easily especially going through TSA. Clogs, mules and Canvas slip-ons are great to wear. Skechers, Crocs, Keds and Dr. Scholl’s slip-ons are comfy and affordable and come in some cute styles and colors.
Comfy leggings are a great choice, but just make sure the fabric is comfy against your skin. And its always a good choice to wear a shirt/t-shirt or sweater that falls below your rear-end, especially if you have an inside seat and have to get up to go to the restroom and have to cross over someone you are seated next to. You get it?
For people who retain fluid in their body when legs are held in a particular position for any length of time and also need some help to increase blood flow from your legs to your heart, compression socks are sensible to wear when flying on an aircraft. They are also available in open and closed toes, in several fabric choices and numerous fashionable colors to choose from. They come in thigh-high compression clothing as well.
If you tend to get cold easily, it's a good idea to bring an oversized scarf in a colorful design or with a distinctive pattern that will keep your neck and arms warm. Plus, there are a plethora of ways to style an oversized scarf, so you can always look your best no matter where your travels take you. An oversized scarf is an excellent year-round accessory because of its versatility. Bringing one with you on your trip will ensure that whatever you wear radiates style.
When flying, it is advisable to layer your clothing. To compensate for the frigid atmospheric conditions on an aircraft, cabin temperatures are normally kept between 71 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. So, if you get cold quickly, the layered style will be ideal for you when flying. For example, if you're wearing jeans, combine them with a tank top and a shirt, followed by a jacket or sweater. It is better to have more and take off than not have enough and be uncomfortable on the plane.
Last but not least on my short list, bring a decent sized stylish bag to store your essentials in while flying. Most airlines allow two carry-on baggage, so keep your most necessary items with you on the plane, such as prescriptions, toothbrushes, cell phones, and tablets. Why stylish, you may wonder? A charming bag can elevate even the most casual of outfits. I'll also include my own personal touch, a pair of unique sunglasses. A stylish bag and eye-catching sunglasses will elevate any casual outfit to a chic look any day. For sure!
